#NotTooYoungToRun: A piece on bill made law by Tunde J. Oyedele

#NotTooYoungToRun: Are Nigerian Youths Ready to run?
- Tunde J. Oyedele

Inasmuch as we appreciate the current
move of this administration in signing into law the #NotTooYoungToRun bill, it's however imperative as future leaders not to get swayed by the joy of involvement this creates.

The plenty of hopes for the future regardless of the current situations is common among we young people and this exactly is an issue to treat.

This generation of youths are products of the old Nigerian system of government which is likely to affect our delivery of good governance when given the opportunity to serve in various capacities.

The level of interest, level of exposure and level of commitment to serve our great nation by the youths should be looked into.

If we are given the same youths that are more interested, exposed and committed to making of money at any cost, trending musics and fashions, drug abuse and vices of such the opportunity to serve then I think we're on the verge of doing ourselves greater harm than good with this new law.

Majority of the youths will still need enough of political tutelage and support from these same old men in order to deliver better than them or else it will be the same old story at the end of subsequent elections. Yes, apart from the financial strength majority also lack the strength of self recognition and involvement.

Our tertiary  institutions as a case study, have shown the level at which the youths of this generation are committed and exposed to politicking and service to humanity. These youths are products of institutions where the management instills fear in them in exposing their minds towards striking issues that affects them negatively as students, how can the same youths come out openly to confront and tackle the mainstream institutional problems we face as a nation?

Even when those in their little number tries to speak out against any form of tyranny, they are faced with threats of suspension, expulsion and incarceration, leaving others in their majority to remain in total silence.

In lieu of this, my advice to fellow youths is to see this current move of this administration as an opportunity to get ourselves liberated, speaking together in one voice of our readiness to get back our stolen rights. It might appears difficult but with our numeric strength through the power of our votes, achieving this is not far fetched. Hence, the need to actively join political platforms that encourages Young Minds to get involved in power is important.

Also using this medium in advising the various young candidates showing interest in the number one seat of the nation to come together in round table discussion to decide on who represents us now among them. We cannot risk contesting as Young Minds from different platforms as this may result in we not achieving our goal of a Young President.

Nigerians have been disgraced over time across the world as giant of Africa and this is the time to regain our national and international strength and respect as a nation.

The time to act is now! God bless Nigeria! 🇳🇬
